2025.01.22 19:15 AlexBast CompTIA cancelled my Linux+ beta exam and won't let me rebook
I'm new ish in my IT career. Been a home labber for years but worked in a different field (finance) and certifications felt like an easyish path to get started and add value to my resume.
I started the year getting my A+. I had a horrible customer experience then too as they stopped offering exams in my province due to local regulations after I had bought vouchers for A+, Sec+ and Network+ but finally after 6 weeks of delays and back and forth with CompTIA I finally booked and passed the exam. Shortly after that I got a job in IT and this past summer I passed my Sec+ (studied for CCNA in between).
This past November I booked the Linux+ beta exam when it wasn't really in my short term certification path but hey it was cheap! I put other certifications on hold while I focused and studied for 2 months. My exam was scheduled during the holidays. This might not have been the best idea but dates were available and work would be slow enough I could cram at work before the date.
The day before my in person exam (2.5 hour drive away out of province) I get an email from PearsonVUE stating that they couldn't get proctor and that they were cancelling and refunding my exam fee and to contact CompTIA to rebook. After 2 weeks of back and forth between CompTIA and PearsonVUE they're sticking to their guns and not letting me rebook the exam. With their excuse being that the last date to book was December 16th (before the cancellation), that they refunded me the exam fees and that I could always wait for the final exam version (at full price!).
Yes, I learned stuff preparing for the exam, but this really feels like a slap in the face after months of effort.
With the final date of the exam looming it's probably not worth the effort to keep fighting them on this. They've achieved DMV status and a complete unwillingness to accomodate anyone, even when they mess up.
If there's a way to squeeze an extra penny or 2 from someone. Pay up or f--k off.

Iām going to be vague to attempt to keep anonymity.
I held the intro for this Non-Profit in December 2023. After some encouraging conversations, it became obvious timing was off. Fast forward to November 2024 - we reconnect. What followed was nearly daily meetings, multiple demos, and rigorous negotiating for 2 months. I gave everything I had to close this deal. Countless late nights and weekend work. After 5 years in Sales, I really wanted this.
Two weeks ago, I got the coveted signature.
Then Trump was inaugurated on Monday. He immediately signed an Executive Order that somehow meant revoking already approved funding for this refugee focused Non-Profit. They had to lay off 90% of their staff within 24 hours. So, they backed out of the deal.
And at my company, nothing is finalized until the client premiers on our platform. We were 9 days away from the premier date.
I went from thinking I was going to my first presidents club, to being behind on this quarters quota.
Iāve never felt more discouraged than I do today. Itās like all the air has been zapped from my lungs. Iāve felt lows before in this job, but never like this. Iām sure this will be a hilarious story in 5 years. But today, I am sad and defeated.
And yes, I do feel bad for the employees being laid off, but this is sales and I need to vent. Please give me some words of encouragement. This sub is my only outlet for sales

The disclosure showed sale of 10,000 shares of Nvidia along with 31,600 shares of Apple on Dec. 31. After the sale, Pelosi bought 50 more Nvidia call options on Jan. 14 that had a strike price of $80 in a trade that was in the range between $250,000 and $500,000. He also exercised 500 call options for Nvidia on Dec. 20 that had a strike price of $12 and were due to expire that day.
The former speaker's disclosure also noted several other investments that occurred in the last month, including that 140 call options were exercised for 14,000 shares of Palo Alto Networks at a strike price of $100 that were due to expire Dec. 20 in a trade reported as being between $1 million and $5 million.
Pelosi also disclosed the purchase of 50 call options of Tempus AI with a $20 strike price, as well as 50 call options of Vistra Corp. with a $50 strike price, on Jan. 14. The Vistra purchase was in the $500,000 to $1 million range, while Tempus was between $50,000 and $100,000.
