About a year ago my life had a big failure with work and I decided to take a year off from work. I'm in my 40's, married with kids, and was really lucky to be able to do it. My husband thought that I'd last a couple weeks at most since I can't really sit still but here we are on month 10 and I feel like I'm still stuck. The first couple months were definitely grieving - the loss of something that I put my whole heart into for more than a decade. I spent the summer doing home renovation projects and that felt good to do stuff with my hands while the kids were off school.
In the fall I started therapy, got on some anti-depressants and was patient with myself....and started trying to build healthier habits. I don't drink/smoke/drugs. I just eat my feelings for the most part. Portions way too big and not consistent with exercise.
I've been reading this subreddit for a while and the advice to 'just do it' and 'start small' and that it'll suck but just do it but I end up giving myself a panic attack and failing before I begin. I want to have this big 'discipline' montage where I get tired of my own shit and excuses and start becoming the disciplined person I wanted to be. Consistent exercise. Eating healthier. Losing some of this excess weight (ideally 50 lbs). But I can't. get. my. rear. in. gear. These days I barely leave the house. I will get a couple good days and then just fall apart.
I'm inspired reading your stories and overcoming obstacles but I have no idea why I can't just do it. I know I need to start small and I can't change anything overnight but WTF is wrong with me that I can't get it done? I have all the tools I need....I turned a bit of the garage into an exercise space. Have dogs who would love the longer walks. I set up walking dates with friends and flake out. I can't figure out consistency right now and it's driving me insane.
