Hi I got an acceptance letter from the UCEAP, and listing out which campus to enroll in. Though my major is Business in my home university, I did lots of art projects during my 1st and 2nd year and would like to attend some art classes since Ucla is famous for them. I'm planning to enroll Drawing, Art01(the freshman curriculum), if anyone who attended these classes any tips would be appreciated!!
and no offence at all, has the overall atmosphere at Ucla gone more... dangerous after the wildfire?? My no#1 preference has always been the Bruins(unchaged even now), but my parents worry so much if the public saftey got worse after the tragic incident.
This is my first time in reddit, so I'm feeling quite nervous if this is the right place, right way to ask questions. I hope to see you all this Sep. Any advice other than above more than welcome

During a job interview the interviewer asked me a question that indicated they knew about my employment history outside my resume. Here is a kicker. I reached out to a former colleague asking for introduction since they had some connections at the company. At that time I didn’t have an interview set up. They turn around and give a backdoor reference. Btw, the interviewer was looking left and right and not having a direct eye contact and was uninterested in what I had to say. When I asked them a question at the end of the conversation, they just rambled. Definitely bias and unethical behavior that goes against their own company’s policy.

I was dragged out of the closet by my parents. They found texts I sent my girlfriend at the time, and I was condemned. I got middling grades in high school; A's in things I liked, Ds or Fs in things I didn't. I got yelled at often for not working hard enough or good enough that it's festered into major depression. I couldn't ask for help at home, because the Algebra would go over their heads and they'd dismiss my problems as something they couldn't handle.
When they found out about my girlfriend, I was sat down in a chair and screamed at. Relentlessly. I cried harder than I ever have before. I was told I was going to hell. That my brother and sister would be shunned because of me. Everything was my fault. I'd ruined their lives as well as mine. My dad wanted to throw me out.
I was 17 at the time. I'm now 31 and the pain from that day still lingers. I hold onto this grudge, because I don't know how to resolve this. I'd like an apology so I can say no to their faces. Let them know they scarred me. My brother told me they want an apology from me. It won't happen. I feel like a child if I say I hate them, but it's the closest thing I can think of to explain our relationship, or lack thereof. I go to holidays out of obligation, to my grandparents and my siblings. Nothing religious. Just Thanksgiving and Xmas, but I only take part in the secular things. Going to hell anyway, right?
Don't know where to go from here. Just... be careful, kids. It's a hard world.

I’ve been holding onto these thoughts for a while, and I think it’s time I finally say them. I need to be honest with you—not for your sake, but for mine.
We haven’t known each other for long, barely a year, but in that short time, so much has happened that I can’t ignore. At first, I thought we had the beginnings of a real friendship—built on trust and mutual respect. But it didn’t take long to see the cracks.
From the start, you had a way of twisting the truth, leaving out important details, or outright lying when it suited you. I tried to overlook it, telling myself that maybe you just needed someone to trust, someone who would listen. And I did listen. I listened to you talk about how you thought people were whispering about you in every room, how the radio or TV was sending coded messages that let others read your mind. I believed in your reality because I wanted to support you.
But when the tables turned—when I shared my struggles, real and proven—you dismissed me completely.
“You’re crazy,” you said.
Hearing that from you was like a slap in the face. How could you, of all people, call me crazy? I gave you the benefit of the doubt over and over again, but you couldn’t offer me the same.
And then there were the lies.
You lied about not talking behind my back. About not stalking me. About not gaslighting me. About not catfishing me. When I confronted you, your excuses were weak, your apologies hollow, and your dismissive attitude made it clear you thought I was too stupid to see the truth.
What hurt the most was realizing you were talking about me to people I didn’t even know. You spread incomplete, distorted versions of my life, judging me based on fragments of information you didn’t even try to understand. You acted like you had the right to judge me, but it was clear you didn’t have the full picture. And maybe you didn’t even want it.
What I’ve learned is that I need people in my life who care about how they treat others. I need people who value communication, accountability, and honesty. You’ve shown me that you don’t care about how your actions affect others—or even yourself.
Your addiction has returned, and while I understand how hard that is, I can’t be the person to support you through it—not when you’ve shown so little care for me or my feelings. I can’t carry that weight for you, especially when you don’t seem to care about carrying it yourself.
It’s only been a year, but it’s been enough for me to know that I can’t continue this friendship. You’ve shown me who you are, and I can’t accept it.
I deserve better. Better than the lies, the judgment, the gaslighting, and the dismissiveness. I deserve friends who care about me as much as I care about them.
Goodbye, SB. I hope you figure things out for yourself, but I won’t be a part of it anymore.

I bought my child a wireless power bank for his Iphone off of Amazon. It worked perfectly fine until this week. Within 10 minutes of him charging his phone with it, it literally exploded and burst into flames. Thankfully we were able to get the fire put out and my son is ok but the fire did quite a bit of damage to my carpet and wall. I have contacted Amazon and waiting on a call back and they recommended I also reach out to the manufacturer which i have done. They both requested photos which i was happy to send them and both were shocked and very apologetic. My question is who is responsible for the damages to my home? Amazons legal dept is supposed to be contacting me and the manufacturer is asking for receipts for the items ruined in the fire. Obviously i don’t have receipts for my carpet and wall so not sure what to do. They can clearly see in the photos the damage. I have also requested the charger be recalled. The manufacturer responded saying that they are not going to sell the charger anymore and it was already removed from Amazon before the fire we had which makes me believe they knew it was faulty but did not warn people that has already purchased it. Thoughts?
