2025.01.30 21:50 -cytosine one hour virtual interview
hello! I’m sure this has been asked a million times on this sub but I’m hoping to receive any sort of guidance. I got an email this morning from my dream program inviting me to a one hour virtual interview with current students and faculty. I am beyond excited because this is a good step and I really want to get admitted. But what kind of questions should I except? This is my first time ever applying to grad school so Ive never interviewed for a school before. it is a dual MS/MBA program for a little more context. obviously I know to expect questions about my aspirations and experience, but wondering if there will be anything I should look out for. thanks in advance!

2025.01.30 21:50 NiceTo Google offering ‘voluntary exit’ for employees working on Pixel, Android
Jan 30 2025 - 10:02 am PT
Last year, the teams responsible for Pixel hardware and Android software were merged into one division, and Google today announced a “voluntary exit program” for employees working in the Platforms & Devices group.
SVP Rick Osterloh sent out a memo to employees this morning about the “voluntary exit program,” and the company confirmed to 9to5Google that this is happening.
This program applies to US employees working on Platforms & Devices, which includes Android (Auto, TV, Wear OS, XR), Chrome, ChromeOS, Google Photos, Google One, Pixel, Fitbit, and Nest. Google has many people around the world working on these products, but today’s announcement is just for those stateside.
Meanwhile, this is not a company-wide offer that applies to Search, AI, or other groups, though Alphabet’s new CFO last October said “driving further efficiencies” was a key priority.
Separately, software and hardware were already two very large organizations, with some overlap. Now that things have settled in recent months, employees have a better idea of their roles. Osterloh said the division received questions about the possibility of voluntary exits since the Pixel-Android merger. Not offering people the option to leave in advance was a complaint about how Google handled past layoffs.
The memo frames this exit program as being beneficial for those who might not be aligned or passionate about the combined organization’s mission or are having difficulty with their roles, and hybrid working requirements.
In leaving Google, employees will get a severance package, with more details internally coming soon. From what we learned, this program does not coincide with any product roadmap changes.
Before the merger, the Google hardware division last January switched to a functional organization model where there is one team (and leader) for teams like hardware engineering across Pixel, Nest, and Fitbit. At the same time, a few hundred roles were cut. The broader unification in April was designed to “speed up decision-making” internally.
In offering this program today, Google wants employees “to be deeply committed to our mission and focused on building great products, with speed and efficiency.” The statement also makes reference to “tremendous momentum” and “so much important work ahead.” Google’s full statement is below.
The Platforms & Devices team is offering a voluntary exit program that provides US-based Googlers working on this team the ability to voluntarily leave the company with a severance package. This comes after we brought two large organizations together last year. There’s tremendous momentum on this team and with so much important work ahead, we want everyone to be deeply committed to our mission and focused on building great products, with speed and efficiency.Source: https://9to5google.com/2025/01/30/pixel-android-voluntary-exit-employees/

2025.01.30 21:50 siren_soriee Relearning your "natural" dialect?
I'm jamaican American, I used to speak patwa when I was younger but I lost the skill overtime because It's easier for most people to understand normal English and my mom just never really taught me fully . I can understand patwa as my mom speaks it, I literally have carribean friends but whenever I speak it I'm obviously American and it sounds sorta like I'm imitating it. I wanna learn how to speak it again my friend has kept her dialect and can switch from American English to patwa easily but also because I was dicussing moving with my mom and she mentioned that when I move I can embrace my natural accent instead of the American accent and I realized my accent is low-key fried and I'm basically the no Sabo kid of jamaica which is embarrassing. Any of yall struggle with this? It makes me feel like a imposter in my own culture.

2025.01.30 21:50 Uknown_Idea New to Graphics Card purchasing. What should I be buying with $700-$800?
As the title say. I'm just incredibly overwhelmed with information on the new cards, possible price drops, availability ect ect. I know the 5070s will be coming out soon but apparently they arent all that great and will likely sell out fast. I was looking at 4080 Supers but they seem to be a little expensive and I cant find a solid price. I could also go with a 4070 Ti or something but I don't know what a good price is for that either after looking or if I need to keep waiting for possible price drops? I'm buying most of my PC components tomorrow except for the GPU because I cant seem to find any single solid thing to go with. Does anyone have any suggestions or guidance for someone who just can't seem to lock in a decision? I really appreciate how helpful the PC community on Reddit is and have almost figured this all out thanks to you guys otherwise!

2025.01.30 21:50 BenSkinnerCreative My design business is doing my head in but I'm not sure where I'm going wrong!
I know it's difficult to give business advice without knowing the complete ins and outs of my business - but I wonder whether someone might be able to shed some light on my lack of growth. And also, if this business is still viable in me pursuing.
Just to start - I feel like I maybe need to bring someone else in to help either with new business, or just the day to day design work and I focus on the new business.
Although when you take my sales into account below, I wonder how that's possible? (I should mention, I've recently got a part time job just to make sure I can pay the rent and cover most of my important outgoings including expenses). It's only working 3 days a week at minimum wage (about 11,000 per annum). This part time job is actually ending soon due to redundancy, and I'm either going to get a full time graphic design job to help invest more into the business, or just have a full time job at minimum wage (whichever I can grab first!)
To give a bit of context - I'm a freelance graphic designer (with 13 years experience) so I know my industry pretty well know in terms of costings and timescales and what work I'm good at doing.
My website is benskinnercreative.com.
I've had a lot of success with logos, websites and general marketing collateral (brochures and presentation decks).
Graphic design and marketing is a massively saturated market now - although I've managed to build up a fairly consistent client list mainly in the entrepreneurial sector.
The first 2 years of my business I had a lot more bookings with marketing agencies working in-house with them which was better paid, but meant I couldn't use any of the work due to signing non-disclaimers as part of the work which I didn't want to continue doing.
My sales have come from referrals and website enquiries (50% split between the 2 I'd say, although more now I'd say referrals)
I'm not the cheapest designer out there, but I'm not the most expensive compared to an agency. I'll charge £300 - £3000 for a brand identity project depending on what the client is after.
I'm aware my sales are pretty low generally, here's my breakdown of the last 4 years:
2024-2025: My sales sheet ends in April, and I estimate no more than £8000
2023-2024: £12,366.68 before tax & £2,906.27 expenses.
2022-2023: £17,164.01 before tax & £1771 expenses.
2021-2022: £14,229.36 before tax & £4134 expenses.
This year I've found client delays a bit of a factor that I'm trying to crack down on. Obviously if I don't get the work done quick enough, I can't make more sales.
My expenses are kept pretty low, I don't have an office space I pay rent for - I only pay for software costs, file storage such as dropbox, design assets where needed such as stock photos and travel costs which are fairly minimal as I do a lot of remote calls now.
In terms of investing back into the business which I probably haven't done enough, I have had social media consultancy, mentoring and paid content written to help certain parts of my website.
I've harnessed and trying to improve my SEO which has been a great help, and I've also got some sort of social media strategy that seems to get engagement but not always sales.
My pricing at the moment is split between per project basis and hourly. I have discussed retainers with my clients but a lot of them say they don't have the budget. A new method I've been discussing with 1 client is a fixed amount of hours throughout the year. For example, say 60 hours for £1800.
I have 3 main long term clients who've been working with me for longer than 2 years and the rest have had 1 or 2 jobs with me and then I don't hear from them for quite a few months or a year even.
Hopefully this is high level enough for someone to shed a bit of light on my issue! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

2025.01.30 21:50 zen0ptik How do you get the word out about a technical product when end users never see it? [I will not promote]
Hey, I'm co-founder of a software startup and need advice. I WILL NOT PROMOTE.
We’ve built an AI infrastructure product that sits under the hood of B2C AI apps—powering long-term memory, proactive outreach, and multi-modal interactions (voice, text, etc.). It’s the kind of thing that, when integrated, can be a game-changer for engagement and retention. But because it’s infrastructure, users don’t see it directly, and that makes marketing it tricky.
I'm not looking to spam or shill here—just genuinely curious how others have tackled the challenge of getting the word out about a technical product when your actual customers are consumer-facing apps.
If you’ve built (or marketed) a technical product that powers B2C experiences, how did you approach awareness and adoption?
