I boycott those restaurants that charges 10% service charges when they provide half ass service.
By getting patrons to self self, they already saved on wages, why still charge for service charges?
I whole heartedly gave 10% when those restaurants still do it the old fashioned way when the staff comes to you, take your order, answer queries and give recommendations.

Got my first pair of boots this weekend! I chose this pair because honestly they were the only ones I could even get onto my foot— I have very high arches and wide calves, so most ladies’ boots don’t work for me and I have to go to men’s. I knew I’d need an insole for comfort (these were obviously pre-loved and broken in by someone else) but I’m curious about finding one to adjust the fit. What kind of insole should I look for to help with heel and ball of foot slippage? Or is it worth it to try to find someone that can make them a little more snug? Will anyone even DO resizing work on elephant…? I paid $125 for these and I’m ok with paying even more to customize the fit. (I know the shank is a little crunched around the ankle but that’s not what I’m concerned about today.)
Any suggestions you have, I’m all ears! If all I can do is keep ‘em stuffed with tissue paper and extra socks that’s okay with me. It took a long time to find any pair that worked so I’d ideally like to keep these, but if it’s a total defeat I’ll just give them to my man. Thank you!

My best friend (let’s call her Kim) and I have been friends for around four years. We know everything about each other and are super close—we basically revolve around each other. If she likes someone, I like them too. If she doesn’t like someone, I hate them as well.
At the beginning of this school year, a new girl (let’s call her Layla) joined our English class and was seated at my table. I tried to be kind to her, including her in everything, complimenting her, and telling her she had pretty hair. I was just trying to be a good person. Layla quickly became one of the popular girls—think Mean Girls, but a toned-down version.
At the time, I was part of a friend group that also sat at our English table, and Layla eventually became part of it too. Kim was part of the same friend group but had a different English class. Layla started coming up to me privately, telling me how much she hated some of the other girls in our group (not Kim, though). She called them “pick-me girls” and said terrible things about them. Not only did she gossip to me, but she also told everything to the popular girls.
Word got around fast, and the other girls in my friend group found out. They started shit talking Layla behind her back and began treating her coldly, distancing themselves from her. Meanwhile, Layla got very close to Kim, and at one point, they became so close that I felt genuinely left out.
I eventually told Kim that I didn’t really like Layla anymore. My dislike for her grew after I learned about something truly awful she had done: one of her exes had gotten jumped and nearly died because she told someone to do it, and then she laughed about it and showed people the video. I told Kim this wasn’t normal or okay behavior, but I didn’t say it to break them apart—I just needed to share my thoughts. Despite this, Kim and Layla remained close.
Even though I was still somewhat friendly with Layla, my feelings toward her hadn’t changed. I thought she was a bad person and decided to let karma do its job—and it did. After a few weeks of Layla and Kim’s close friendship, Kim started coming to me and complaining about Layla. She said Layla would ditch her as soon as someone more popular was around. It became clear that Kim was slowly starting to dislike Layla too.
During this time, my friend group got closer to another group that included one of my other best friends (let’s call him Josh). I’ve known Josh since year two, and eventually, Kim and Josh started liking each other. We began going out to the mall together, and at one point, I was third-wheeling them. I encouraged them to confess their feelings, and they started dating. However, Kim isn’t great at communicating her feelings, even in relationships, so it didn’t last long.
While Kim and Josh were dating, Layla started getting really close to Josh. She was blatantly flirting with him in front of Kim, which made Kim uncomfortable, especially since Josh had liked Layla before he and Kim started dating. Kim was skeptical of the whole situation and eventually confronted Layla about it. Layla got defensive and rude, avoiding accountability.
When Kim and Josh broke up, I was on the phone with her. It started as a random argument and escalated into a sudden breakup. Afterward, Layla made it obvious she liked Josh and even told me she thought he liked her too, completely ignoring how it might affect Kim.
Kim and Layla later talked about the situation, but it turned into an argument. Layla didn’t care Kim’s feelings, saying things like, “You guys barely even talked, so it doesn’t count as breaking girl code,” and called her selfish. After that, Kim decided she didn’t want anything to do with Layla anymore.
Today, during an ice skating trip with other friend groups, Layla and Josh spent most of their time together. Meanwhile, Kim and I stuck together, talking about everything that had happened.
At the ice rink, things were so awkward. Layla was stuck to Josh the entire time, skating with him and laughing like they were the only two people there. Anytime Kim and I tried to go over to them, Layla would find a way to exclude Kim completely. It was so obvious, and I could tell Kim felt left out.
Layla was also all over everyone else including me, trying to get attention and being super clingy, but she wouldn’t even look at Kim. It was like she was purposely ignoring her while being way too flirty with Josh—right in front of Kim! Honestly, it was hard to watch.
What made it even worse was knowing that Layla didn’t really have anyone else anymore. Most people had already dropped her because of all the drama she caused, and now she’s hanging onto me, Josh and all of Kim’s other friends like her life depends on it. By the end of the trip, Kim and I just stayed together and tried to have fun, but it was hard with Layla acting like that.

In the wake of the hurricane, where can I go in town to get passport photos taken? I tried dropping in on five different CVS/Walgreens and none of them had an operational photo kiosk. I tried the USPS website to set an appointment, but it got stuck searching for locations, regardless of which browser I used.
I mean, this is doable, right? Please only reply if you know with certainty that photos are being taken somewhere. I've already wasted plenty of time and gas driving around town.

M26 - Hi everyone, I’ve been dealing with very mild psoriasis since 2016. I have 4-6 spots on my back, one spot on each knee, and some small ones on my elbows. Now, I’m really afraid of developing Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA), and sometimes I feel my knees when I run or walk, or I get a sudden stabbing pain in my shin that lasts for about 2 minutes. Occasionally, I also feel a shock-like sensation from my glute muscle to my calf. I don’t know if it’s because I’m so anxious about it or if these are typical PsA symptoms. 2025.01.27 16:40 All_this_hype Do you think Merlin has an issue with its female characters?
I know, I know, it's an almost 20 year old show. Still, the '00s are not so far away, and other shows of that era were pretty progressive with their female characters.
Personally, I don't like how either of the main female characters were written, and I think they both got the short end of the stick in different ways.
First you have Gwen. She is unproblematic in every way, she's usually the damsel in distress in need of saving, and all her negative actions are almost never her own. Thus, she is denied any level of agency within the story. She is often treated as a plot device or a trophy, and I don't think there are many words to describe her other than "nice". To no fault of the actress, who did her best with the material she was given, she isn't allowed any nuance, or agency, and thus she never really grows or makes decisions as a character.
Morgana has the opposite problem. In any other show, Morgana would be the main character; member of an oppressed minority, with a strong sense of justice and moral compass, brave and unafraid to call out injustice even if she suffers from it. And with a claim to the throne to boot. She could easily be the one to unite Camelot and bring magic back.
Of course, she is also not allowed any nuance. In the first two seasons she is treated by the rest of the cast as the "hysterical woman" and is gaslit, gatekept, girlbossed around. Like Gwen, she is denied any substantial amount of agency. After season 2, she is just "the evil witch". Again, Katie McGrath does her best to portray nuance even when there isn't much in text, but the show is hellbent on erasing her established identity in the first two seasons, lest the audience sides with her and not the "good guys" enforcing the status quo.
At the end of her story, as a final nail to her character's coffin, Morgana is denied even the agency to be evil, and Merlin tells her that he blames himself for how she turned out. No matter how hard Morgana tried to form her own identity and destiny, she was always defined by the men of her life; Uther, Arthur, Merlin and Gaius. Both Morgana and Gwen end up as little more than puppets. They are infantilized, gaslit and lied to by the rest of the cast, and never hold any real power over themselves.
I write this as a 30 year old guy, and I'm aware I am in no way the target demo for this show. However, I loved it growing up, and if there are any fellow grown ups with strong opinions about this subject, I'd love to hear all your thoughts about it.

2025.01.27 16:40 thatwannabewitch Should I upgrade lights before getting everything set up or will I be ok?
 | I got the CoralFish AIO 15 gallon starter reef tank a couple weeks ago (not filled with water yet or anything as I don’t even have my RODI system or salt yet) but I’m skeptical of the light being powerful enough for a nem and corals. I’ve been keeping freshwater planted tanks for quite a while and usually go for 3-4 watts per gallon total for my lights (eg 2 60 watt lights for my 37 gallon). Will this light be ok for basic “beginner” corals or should I look for a decent 50+ watt light and just run at lower intensity? I’ve been looking at the Nicrew Hyper Reef lights as I really like their freshwater lights but idk if they’re actually good for reefs or not. I’ve been running a hyper reef 150 on my large cichlid tank just for illumination and I really like it but again, not sure if they’re actually good for corals or not. I’d just hate to sink a couple hundred into corals and then have to emergently upgrade my light. I definitely don’t mind delaying my setup if it will genuinely be better to get a better light. i’m just 20 and i’ve been diagnosed with schizophrenia for 3 years and i don’t know what to do with my life anymore. i used to have a good social life and now i have pushed away almost everyone i cared about. i’m scared of meeting new people. My episodes are very frequent but short. i feel like i’m dead and dreaming, i see dead people and animals all the time, like they want me. i’m a third year law student and i am scared every second i am not doing something, i always try to keep myself engaged with stuff and half the reason why im writing this is because im alone in my hostel room and scared to not do anything. i feel like someone will rip my heart out. i have ptsd from undergoing an heart valve replacement surgery, ig that adds to that too. I wish i could just rip my heart out myself and end all this but im too much of a coward. i’m sorry for the rant, i am alone and scared

Hi, I’m currently a freshman at a four-year university on the East Coast and planning to transfer as a sophomore to USC Dornsife. I’ve read that USC’s transfer acceptance rate is around 20-25%, but I’ve also heard that they tend to favor California community college (CCC) students, even though it’s a private university.
I believe I’m a fairly strong applicant (4.0 college GPA, average HS stats, strong essays, solid extracurriculars). However, I’m wondering how difficult it is for out-of-state (OOS) students to be admitted.
If anyone has experience as an OOS transfer or insight into the process, I’d really appreciate your advice.

How many teddy bears do you think it takes to do 50%? I have three done, but I didn't pay enough attention because I just pushed through. I'm debating if I should get a fourth partner.
