Thoughts on The Shining Starting by saying I first watched this as a 14 year old and maybe didn’t understand the larger themes present. And now having read it, I can arguably see why people despise the difference between the novel and the film. In a way, I’m sort of glad the two exist. It’s refreshing that you have a story told two ways. Things I adored in the novel:
  1. Love the stream of consciousness writing style. Having just finished “As I lay dying” before this, King lays great groundwork for getting in someone’s head without having to live within literary constraints.
  2. I can see why people dislike the movie portrayals of the main characters. Jack, almost similar in vein to what Louis Creed would become, goes from “family man” to a lunatic with the assist from the hotel. I’m not a film critic, but it would have been much more interesting to see some background noise on Jack vs him just losing it.
  3. I’ve never actually been frightened by a book and this one did it. The idea of being snowbound and isolated isn’t a new idea. But driving it to 110 mph made it terrifying. Especially Halloran’s trip to get there and utterly everything trying to stop him. King does this to great effect in “It” when external forces try to stop the losers from returning.
  4. Best ending of Kings. Most folks complain about his endings and I get it. It’s hard to please someone when they adore 1,000 pages and just don’t like the last few. This ending put a good bow on it. Though I would have appreciated Ullman’s reaction to what happened.
Either way, top five fave books I’ve ever read.

Hello, so to make a long story short, over the past few years I've been thinking of opening a marine repair shop, are there any marine repair owners on here that would mind sharing their stories? My main concerns currently are 1. I'm mechanically Inclined, tend to be great at diagnostic work, and work on almost everything I own myself, and have a friend whos super mechincally inclined, ase certified etc thatd be helping on the side when needed, but my actual skill set when it comes to boats and pwcs are very lacking due to only working on a few different models from the 90s. Would you consider this to be a problem? I definetly wouldn't want to be a shade tree mechanic lol. 2. Lack of space. As I currently sit I only have a 2 car garage, in a neighborhood that hasn't exactly been thrilled with my current self employment out of my house that doesn't involve customers at the house. Ideally I'd like a barn or a warehouse space to work out of, but to take an overhead like that when just starting out seems like finial suicide to me, can someone convince me.otherwise?

Hola, antes que todo me gustaría que se mantenga el respeto en la discusión, me interesa saber que piensa la gente que lo hace como la gente que no.( y si pueden argumentar mejor)
Me di cuenta de esto gracias a mi hermana, hace un tiempo yo había empezado a salir con una chica, todo bien, hablamos bastante seguido, salimos una vez y todo y mi hermana cuando vuelvo me dice de ver el IG, yo se lo muestro y arranca a analizar a fondo todo, fotos, seguidos, etc etc y sale con medio raro que absolutamente todos sus seguidores y seguidos eran hombres, o en su gran mayoría y que eso le hacia ruido. Nunca se me pasó por la cabeza revisar los seguidos/seguidores de alguien, lo siento como algo personal y que es mas para hacerse la cabeza que otra cosa, al final quedó todo ahi con esta chica, no por haberle revisado, pero medio que murió unos dias despues la conversación.
Ahora, veo que es algo "común" entre mujeres revisar esas cosas, entre mi grupo de amigos hombres, a los que le pregunté ninguno se le pasó por la cabeza filtrar con eso, por lo menos en mi grupo, pero si veo en internet que se filtra mucho con eso, pero me parece muy paranoico, es hacerse la cabeza de antemano sin conocer a la persona.
(como cuando IG te decia a que le daba like tus seguidos en una pestaña de notificaciones, re fantasma eso)

Hi guys, decisions for early action come out this friday and i’m terrified because I didn’t realize how hard it is to get into pre-nursing at sbu. I have a 100.16 weighted gpa, 7 AP classes and an okay list of extracurriculars. I had a 1250 SAT but ended up not submitting it because the average submitted was like 1300 something but now I regret not submitting it. I definitely should have applied for a different major but my guidance counselor encouraged me to just apply for pre nursing but now I’m not so sure. I have applied to Adelphi, Hofstra and Farmingdale and got a good scholarship from Adelphi so far but I really think sbu is my dream school.
