I have a background in civil engineering with experience in areas like structural pathology, forensic engineering, and civil works maintenance. My work has been focused on diagnosing structural issues, managing corrective maintenance projects, and ensuring quality in civil infrastructure projects. While I’ve gained valuable insights into how structures behave over time, especially when they fail, or how they get sick, I’ve never been deeply involved in advanced structural design or analysis.
Recently, I’ve become very interested in pursuing a Master’s in Structural Engineering. I’ve always found the mechanics behind structures fascinating, but I’ll admit—I feel pretty intimidated. The theoretical depth, the mathematical demands, and the advanced modeling aspects seem daunting, especially since my background leans more towards diagnostics and maintenance rather than design.
I’m looking to understand:

Even though I have solid knowledge in diagnostics, I often feel that without a deep understanding of structural behavior, I won’t be able to deliver the best work—or I’ll constantly need to rely on consulting a structural engineer. In my country, structural engineers are relatively few, and while I don’t aim to design high-rise buildings (50+ stories), I do want to have the confidence and competence to analyze structures independently when needed.
If anyone has gone through a similar path—or even if you’ve just got advice from your own academic journey—I’d really appreciate your thoughts. How can I best prepare myself to not only survive but thrive in this master’s program?

i met a cancer women, we only met during workplaces. i visited hers and she visited mine.
she suddenly was always at my workplace when i was working there.
she asked me about my zodiac i said scorpio she said cancer.
we she visited me the whole time.
i gave her my number she said "cool"
she went away without her change this time , but i gave it to her.
i had the feeling of being a rapist or somehow killing her trust.
(i didnt want to give her my number or so, but i thought maybe she expects it) because she showed of everytime. and there were some signs from her. like justyfing herself for a week past were weve seen)ourselves, playing with hair, always smiling, watching deep in my eyes and i dunno, maybe taking her cap off and making her hair nice. before going to me.
or being dissapointed when i had a bad day.
then i was in shock that i killed the mood so hard, and she came the same day to my workplace again after 2 hours and said nothing, and was normal and smiling again, i gave her her money, she was normal again.
cudos to her btw for making the situation normal for me with that move somehow though.
she asked me why did i give her my number over phone, i told her to go watch a movie.
i dont feel sad or rejected as im not in love or so. but i dont want to kill her mood in case i missinterpreted some signs. i hang out with girls i have as friends aswell and i go zamba dancing next week with my brothers gf because i want to go there with a not single friend.
i had bestie gf for 10 years we never dated.
i think maybe i shocked her somehow in a negative way and i dont know how to kinda reassure the sitiation for her, so she doesnt thinks that im in love silently or threat her nice only because of wanting to date her.
maybe im a piece of shit for doing this i rly thought she expected it. because sometimes she was dissapointed when i asked her if my friend from her workplace is aswell there after she said she has to work today.
also she doesnt speak my language very well. so maybe she got something wrong.
