2024.11.25 21:29 Tanstaf1 Black Friday advice for CIV VII experience improvement
Currently I have 3 PCs able to play Civ VII, but the question is how well. Do I need to spend limited bucks for a good experience? I only play turn based strategy games. I don't care if I see, or don't see fish swimming in front of my trireme and in any case I don't have, nor plan to get a 4k monitor.
The 3 are:
1) Razer 14 2021: Rizen 5900HX; 16 GB DDR4-3200 soldered; nVidia RTX 3080 8 GB GDDR6
2) Mini-PC: Ryzen 9 7940HS 64 GB DDR5-5600 w/ intergraded Radeon 780M
3) ASRock B365M Pro4 Desktop: i9-9900K 32GB DDR4-1060, 8GB RTX 2070S (Super) PCIe 3.0
Only the desktop (#3) is upgradeable.
Earlier I considered upgrading the desktop's GPU, but in view of its PCIe 3.0 and Gen 9 CPU does it make any sense to replace the 8GB 2070 super with a 3000 or 4000 series nVidia card? Civ VII is CPU multi-core intensive.
I am now thinking that getting a Rizen 5950x and new mobo (which one?) that would use my DDR4 RAM (Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200) and fit in my Fractal Design R5 case may be better choice.
What do you recommend / how much would you spend?

Hi there,
I took my first attempt of the GRE today. I scored 156 V and 162 Q (unofficial).
I was really upset with my result, particularly when it comes to Quant. I need a really high score (>167), and apparently, I managed to miss a lot of questions that I am not used to getting wrong. I had 1 month and a half to prepare (following the 1 month plan from Gregmat). I took Gregmat's PT1 and ETS's Untimed PP1 version. I scored 163 Q on PT1 on my second week of prep, and I aced the quant sections of untimed PP1 (I know this is untimed, but I timed myself accordingly). My perception was the questions I got in the actual test were much easier than the ones I used to practice (mostly from Gregmat's website, few others from ETS's books).
I am less worried about verbal since I only had time to memorize 10-12 groups of vocab. I am also not a super fast reader and great with the TC/SE questions, so I recognize that there is still a lot of work to be done there.
The reason why I am feeling puzzled with the quant, even though I did better than verbal, is that I don't know what I am missing. I literally knew how to solve all of the questions that were prompted to me. I didn't even have to experiment with multiple strategies to solve any of the questions; I knew right away what to do and got plausible results for all of them. I struggled a bit with time in the 2nd section, but still, I don't feel like I had to rush through any of them. The only thing that sounds reasonable to me is if I got caught up on a lot of tricky answers (like the infamous D alternative in quantitative comparison type questions).
I have a second attempt scheduled in 3 weeks from now. Any suggestions?

I couldnt interact with the technician no matter what I did... so I read somewhere that I could force start the next quest through console.. however.. even after completing the whole Happiness for EveryoneFaust fight I am still unable to progress... in search of past glory is still active and I didnt get another quest.. what should I do?

Hi all,
I’m about 1 year into my Energy Career and looking for some guidance.
Context: I’m a London-based energy markets analyst working for an Energy Consultancy whose stakeholde client list includes Energy Suppliers, Energy Regulators and Central Government, covering GB and NI. Projects can range from forecasting, auditing and extracting insights from large messy datasets (often using a suite of coding/ visualisation tools).
I find the work I do very rewarding (and impactful) but in Q2 2025, my team will be merging with another based on new company projects and I’m not 100% convinced the new team is a great fit for me (pure focus on GB and not much opportunity for promotion). I’d also love to cover a multinational landscape rather than just GB as I’m highly interested in the worldwide landscape of energy and natural resources.
As such, I’m asking for your help:
- As someone with my skillset, what sort of roles would make sense to look for? Continue as a data analyst/ consultant?
- What sort of firms could offer this international perspective (could be Europe, Americas, Africa - not fussy!)
- Are there any good recruitment firms in the energy space?

2024.11.25 21:29 Okagemi Pain Under Chin Caused by Yawning?

I've experienced this issue for years, but it's always been quite random. Sometimes when I eat food or when I yawn (mostly when I yawn), I get a very sudden and intense cramp of sorts in a muscle in this area under my chin. It's usually somewhere on the right side (I circled the wrong side, but the area being mirrored should be correct), and I've noticed that it creates a particularly hard lump of flesh under the skin that can be felt by a finger. It usually only happens on one side, being the right side, but also rarely happens on the left. The pain is so intense that it makes me not move my mouth at all, and it genuinely makes me want to throw myself on the floor quite violently. I've tried mentioning it to my GP, but he says that he can't help me if I can't recreate the issue on right then and there. The issue is so random that I can't possibly replicate it at will. The only way to stop the pain is to wait. Sometimes, I can stop it a little sooner by taking my thumb and kind of shoving the area "back into place"? I've always described it almost like a ball that gets dislocated and has to be shoved back into place.
After looking into the anatomy of the area, I've narrowed it down to most likely being the Geniohyoid, Stylohyoid, Mylohyoid, or some combination of the 3 causing this pain. Is anyone able to provide some insight that I might be able to take back to my GP at my next visit? This pain is rare, but debilitating for a few minutes when it happens. I get a genuine panic response when it happens, and it makes me scared to yawn or chew food sometimes.

The purpose of writing what I am about to write is to not only put out my personal opinion, but to also hear what other like minds would like to add or change or just altogether give a completely different perspective, I am extremely open minded and I absolutely love others minds, especially ones that are also open... So I want to start out by saying that I believe the theory that certain psychotropics are a huge factor that play into one being able to access portions of the brain that we have always been told that we "Just dont", and that they also open doors beyond this "earth". Now saying that, I also do wholeheartedly believe that one's mind must have already awakened the ability, to access further abilities. In other words one must not only openly accept the possibility, but have inbeded the thought process that it is possible to use other portions of the brain, with or without psychotropics. So first one must have already awakened the ability, and once you "know" this(and you will just know) then add certain psychotropics that are known for enhancing/strengthening ones mind and minds activities, go forth and open the closed doors in the mind(this step requires extensive attention, and the knowing to not over do it) Once this process is done and the enhancing has been done, then with a sober mind you have gained the ability to utilize these doors that have been re opened therefore accessing portions of the brain that one did not before. I believe some may need to repeat the process to further access and obtain more portions of the mind, which is great, however there are some that can do so without repeating this process, and these certain individuals were able to withstand having opened more doors than another and were able to process all of the new information gained without having a minor mental breakdown while intaking said new information, and later can open more whenever,however,wherever they want....So I want to continue, but not before hearing how others feel about this, and I really hope many will enjoy taking this further.

I’m pleased by what looks like authenticity to what the strain I don’t see anything cursory on is.. beta myrcene and limonene getting on at both nearly 1% and by the numbers that seem accurate.
Setting the last of it to sit-the dog will bite-I was reminded to write my review; in the process I noted akathisia quite causally from the smoke I can’t say I experienced in some time, that also that birthday is quite the hybrid too.
