2024.11.26 18:20 AnthonyAnnArbor Does HRT Affect The Height Of Trans Women?
 | Yesterday, I ranted in a post about the supposed controversy "raging" through the country about trans gender women competing against cis women in sports. While doing so, I made the off-hand observation that, "You probably saw the infamous anti-Harris commercials showing the tall trans woman standing next to her shorter cis teammates. Hormone levels be damned. A person's height doesn't change after starting HRT." Well, a sharp-eyed reader named u/czernoalpha called me on that statement, and responded: "Just a note here: many trans girls do experience a height change after starting hormones. Most of them get shorter and ligaments and joints change and the pelvic tilt alters. I believe it can be as much as an inch of height loss." Honestly, I had no idea. I'd made my assumption based on personal observation. I'd never noticed, nor heard of, any height changes in trans women who began HRT after puberty. But what are the medical facts? True to my journalistic nature, I did a little research. And the answer is: Possibly. In 2022, the National Institute of Health (NIH) published a study with the long-winded title, "Transgender Girls Grow Tall: Adult Height Is Unaffected by GnRH Analogue and Estradiol TreatmentTransgender Girls Grow Tall: Adult Height Is Unaffected by GnRH Analogue and Estradiol Treatment." It was reprinted from a European endocrine journal published the same year. That title gives away the conclusion. According to the study: "Transgender adolescents can receive gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues (GnRH) and gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), but little is known about effects on growth and adult height." In other words, nobody has really looked into the affects of HRT on height in trans women who began HRT post-puberty. A strange omission, if you ask me, but apparently true. I checked around and got pretty much the same answer from other online sites. Virtually all of them concurred that expected height growth is affected by starting HRT during puberty, but the trans women claiming height reductions after starting in their adult years is anecdotal. One such example in support of height changes by an adult came in this article taken from NEWSWEEK dated Jan. 27, 2024. In it, a trans woman who was three years into her HRT noticed a startling change. Shaye Scott, NEWSWEEK (1/27/2024) "Three years after the beginning of her transition, Scott made a shocking discoveryāher height had changed. At 6 feet, 5 inches before starting her transition, Scott now stands at 6 feet, 2 inches and has gone down two shoe sizes." I'll take her word for it, but again, it is totally an anecdotal account. Until researchers decide to devote a full study to determining the facts, I guess we are stuck with what we have. I know one trans women personally, who is still 6'4", that would desperately love to hear that HRT eventually would lessen her height. She is two years into her hormone therapy and hasn't lost nary a centimeter. 2024.11.26 18:20 Ok_Carpenter7268 [s2 act 3 spoilers] Thoughts on Caitlyn and Ambessa's relationship and battle in the end
When I saw the teaser, I thought that Ambessa would challenge Caitlyn to a one on one fight, and Caitlyn, guilt ridden by her involvement with Ambessa, would accept, believing it would save lives. My feeling was that Ambessa would cut Caitlyn's eye, because that's all she wanted as punishment for Caitlyn turning against her, and then either be driven off by Vi, or captured (I wasn't expecting Ambessa to die, given her popularity and media promotion). Another fear I had, was that Ambessa would straight up kill Caitlyn, and an enraged Vi would then fight Ambessa (because, of course, Vi hadn't suffered enough loss in her life!)
When I first watched Arcane, I saw Caitlyn as the idealistic and naive Enforcer, and she became my favourite character. I then saw Ambessa's introduction, and was freaked out when I saw the flashback where she ordered the beheading of a child! My first thought was, they are in such different places story-wise, and my belief (and wish), was that Caitlyn and Ambessa would hopefully never have to cross paths!
And then the end of season 2 act 1 happened...!
Their initial relationship:
When Ambessa appointed Caitlyn to be in charge of overseeing martial law, I knew she was only doing it to use Caitlyn, and that the longer it went on, the more danger Caitlyn would be in. It also didn't help that Caitlyn was in a bad emotional state at that point. My feeling was that Caitlyn would either become completely corrupted by Ambessa, or that she would defy Ambessa, and fall in a coup. But I liked that in Act 2, it showed that even though Caitlyn was still with Ambessa, she had doubts and misgivings about the harsh measures enacted. Whenever Ambessa wanted to implement harsher measures, it would take some effort to convince Caitlyn, who still wanted to adhere to some semblance of the rule of law. Even though Caitlyn ultimately acquiesced to Ambessa's advice, the writers made sure to show that Caitlyn's heart was never fully committed to that course of action, as if she were looking for reasons to argue against it.
The part when Ambessa says "you don't trust me", and Caitlyn replying that "the blade cuts both ways" was a great exchange. It showed that Caitlyn wasn't afraid to voice her opinions, even at the risk of offending Ambessa. And I think Ambessa began to genuinely respect Caitlyn, and began to see her as more than a puppet. Someone wrote a great comment in another post, where they said that Ambessa came to see Caitlyn as the daughter she wanted Mel to be, much like Mel would be the kind of daughter that Cassandra wished Caitlyn could have been. But getting back to Ambessa and Caitlyn, I think Ambessa, despite having her own agenda, did come to see Caitlyn as someone that Mel could have become, had she listened to her (Ambessa) more.
Even at the end, when Ambessa cuts Caitlyn and stands over her, she says "you fought well, child". I don't think Ambessa was mocking Caitlyn, I think even after everything that happened, Ambessa respected Caitlyn's spirit and resolve, even if she had become her enemy.
Their sparring:
I really liked this scene. Mainly because it showed not only that Caitlyn was willing to push herself past her limits, and immerse herself more in Noxian fighting and philosophies, but that Ambessa was allowing it. I think Ambessa was doing this because, on some level, she felt Caitlyn could develop a greater appreciation for Noxian combat principles, as well as philosophy, and make her more likely to listen and trust in Ambessa's advice, allowing Ambessa to have even more sway in Piltover's affairs. I also think that Ambessa was growing more invested in Caitlyn personally, and maybe on a subconscious level, was 'taking her under her wing'. I think, overall, it was self-serving for Ambessa, but I do think there was a genuine interest in Ambessa taking pride in helping Caitlyn grow stronger, both in body, and in mind.
Two parts of the sparring stuck in my mind. One was that, when Ambessa was talking about the 3 principles of combat, (vision, might, and guile), Might, or rather, force, was the only one that Caitlyn cautioned against using in excess. I think this was interesting in how it played a role in their fight, when Ambessa was so focused on stabbing Caitlyn, and didn't see Caitlyn looking at her runes briefly before grabbing the blade in her and cutting the runes off.
The other part, was the ending, when Ambessa added the 4th principle, sacrifice, which heightened all the other principles. I loved how this would foreshadow Caitlyn making the sacrifice to let her eye get hit, so that she could pull the knife from her side and cut away the runes so that Mel could finish her mother off. Caitlyn chose to sacrifice, in order to achieve the ultimate victory.
The fallout:
This one was complicated for me. While it was obvious that Ambessa was enraged by Caitlyn working with Vi to help Vander, it's hard to feel too sympathetic for her. She had arranged for the attack at the memorial, which she knew would further deepen Caitlyn's anger and grief, making her more emotionally vulnerable to manipulation. She also, it turned out, had been using Maddie to get close to Caitlyn and spy on her. And she had made an alliance with Singed behind Caitlyn's back. (When Caitlyn walks into the lab where Singed and Ambessa are talking to each other, Caitlyn and Ambessa both greet each other by their titles, rather than by name. And while they are cordial, it looks like Ambessa is not expecting, or is bothered, by Caitlyn's presence, as if she didn't want her there). I think eventually, as fond as Ambessa may have become of Caitlyn, Ambessa would have turned on her when she felt it served her best. So Caitlyn turning on her first, while infuriating for Ambessa, shouldn't have come as too much of a surprise, as she was going to do it eventually herself.
The fight:
The fight scared me, as a Caitlyn fan, lol, but I thought it was done really well. Ambessa was clearly the stronger and more experienced fighter, but Caitlyn's strength has always been her determination to never give up. That line after she punches Ambessa, saying "Shut up and fight!" was such an awesome line for her to say. She's saying it while surrounded by Noxians, facing the person who'd mentored her, and she has a blade stuck in her side. But by either sheer will or adrenaline, she doesn't care, she's not backing down. (Just trying to focus on the Caitlyn Ambessa dynamic, so don't want to ignore or minimize the role Mel played throughout the fight herself)
The sacrifice of her eye to get the runes off Ambessa was really well done. I think it showed how Caitlyn was able to apply all 4 principles that Ambessa had taught her:
Vision - Caitlyn was able to examine the situation around her. See that simply trying to hold back the blade was not enough, and that she would have to reshape the situation around her to change her fate. Ambessa, meanwhile, was so fixated on pushing the blade into Caitlyn, she had closed herself off the possibility of anything else happening in that moment.
Might - Caitlyn knew that Ambessa was using all her strength to force the blade into her. Caitlyn adapted, and because Ambessa was using too much force, she exposed herself to risk (the cutting of the runes).
Guile - Caitlyn continued trying to fight the attack, but after looking at the runes, she took a hand off to grab the blade in her, letting Ambessa's blade come through. Ambessa may have just believed Caitlyn was exhausted and dropped her guard, not realizing where Caitlyn's other hand had gone, and how quickly she was able to slice the runes off her arm in one motion (call back to their sparring, where Ambessa had told Caitlyn that her speed was improving).
Sacrifice - Caitlyn chooses to make the sacrifice to her eye to cut the runes from Ambessa's arm, allowing Mel to trap her and thus achieve victory.
I was worried for Caitlyn when Ambessa took an interest in using her for her own ends, but I really liked Caitlyn's character arc, and was happy with how it ended. A part of me wished she didn't have to sacrifice her eye, but I think, given the stakes, it made sense from a storyline perspective. Also, given how prominent her role was in the oppression of Zaun during Martial Law, there's an argument by some that she had to pay some kind of price or penance for the alliance with Ambessa, and also for breaking that alliance (At that time, she was in an emotionally bad place, and was being taken advantage of, but I liked that Caitlyn never made any excuses, and would talk about how no good deed could undo their mistakes/crimes).
It was just really interesting to see Caitlyn, an Enforcer and sniper when we first saw her, trained in Noxian fighting techniques, and engaging in a knife fight with the Noxian warlord who trained her, and doing so while injured. I just thought it was really well done.

We are in the Kigwood/Humble area. My father passed (11/2024) with a valid/notarized will designation everything go to his wife (my mom) and when she passes transfer to me (only child). He had no outstanding debts. She is 79yo and wants to put the home in a ladybird deed to me. The only other assets is one life insurance, pension, and a 1989 suburban. Do I need a probate lawyer or do must we file probate? This is my first rodeo and I appreciate and suggestions.

With the recent monsters inc and muppets announcement, many fans are speculating that muppet vision and laugh floor may be relocated. This got me thinking about how many Disney attraction have been moved over the years. Hereās what I could think of off the top of my head. King Arthur Carousel and Prince Charmingās Regal Carousel are moved from their respective parks of origin to Disneyland and Disney World. Itās a Small World, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, and Carrousel of Progress get relocated to Disneyland from the ā64 worlds fair. Disneylandās Astro Orbiter gets moved twice, from near the submarines, onto the people mover track, then to the entrance of Tomorrowland. Carousel of Progress gets relocated from Disneyland to Disney World. Dumbo is moved from the middle of Disney Worldās Fantasyland to Storybook Circus.
Only one of these moves is a WDW to WDW move. Are there any more Iām missing? I havenāt listed any meet and greets here, but characters have been moved around so much that it would be too hard to list here, and characters are much easier to move than rides or shows.

Since one year I have been trying to boost my club size . We currently have around 30 members . Toastmasters is really struggling in South Asia . Normally from what I have seen from last few membership cycles is we normally hover around 25-30 and by year end swell to 37-38 members . However we go back to 25-30 strength after renewals . We also have trouble retaining experienced members .
Currently we do follow ups with guests , have meet up account , active Instagram and guest group on WhatsApp also .
I think we are doing decent but few clubs are able to get really big . Easily 40 plus 50 plus in strength . Idk how they get to that size

Iāve been making it about 12 hours so far, havenāt been trying to do this for long (maybe the last month). I was kind of already used to fasting without trying because I am on Vyvanse, so it distracts me from feeling hungry during the day. I have Gravesā disease which causes hyperthyroidism, and that causes things like a higher metabolism thus itās a little easier to feel hungry faster. Iām in treatment so it isnāt like it used to be (I used to feel nauseous if I went a while without eating). The Gravesā is why Iām trying IF, because treatment can cause weight gain and Iām already overweight so I need to lose more not gain anything back. TIA
