2025.01.22 17:04 Flashy-Anybody6386 Realistic space battles

I've been thinking a lot about how realistic space battles would take place in our universe and within our laws of physics. I.e., no FTL, remote teleportation, etc. I think I've gotten it more or less nailed down. Firstly, a realistic layout and weapons load for a non-cloaked warship would look something like this:

Approximately 1,000 feet long, 50-100,000 tons of primarily titanium
Fusion or antimatter subluminal propulsion
Pressurized cabin, but the crew put on space suits ahead of a battle in case they need to bail
2-4 Long-range RKV (relativistic kill vehicle) guns firing 1 kg shotgun-style projectiles, each splitting into a few thousand smaller pellets
10-20 Shorter-range RKV guns firing 0.1 kg shotgun-style projectiles at a higher rate of fire
4-8 CIWS-style RKV guns to intercept enemy RKV projectiles at close range
2-4 Lasers for short-range anti-missile defense
- Electro-optical sensors for tracking uncloaked ships
Gravitational wave sensors for tracking cloaked ships
Active gravitational wave-homing anti-cloaked ship missiles

Here's how I think a battle between two of these warships would go down in real life:
9+ million miles separation: The two ships change their speed to 10% the speed of light, which would allow for ideal maneuvering and tracking of the enemy without relativistic effects. Not doing this reduces maneuverability of slower vessels and reaction time of faster vessels.
3-9 million miles: The two ships would begin firing at each other using shotgun-style RKVs traveling at ~90% the speed of light. Meanwhile, both ships would begin maneuvering to avoid enemy fire. Because of the speed of light, both ships would have about a 17-49 second delay in the actual position of the enemy ship, allowing them to maneuver outside the firing envelope of the enemy before their rounds hit them. This is why shotgun-style RKVs are so important.
0.5-3 million miles: The ships open up with their smaller RKV guns. While they're not as likely to hit, their higher rate of fire makes up for that. Time delay is 2.7-16 seconds at this range. Larger guns set their shotgun charges to detonate later, shrinking the engagement envelope as the enemy gets closer. Most ship-on-ship kills will occur in this range bracket.
0.2-0.5 million miles: Lasers become effective at this range, but mainly just for blinding enemy electro-optical sensors. The time delay of 1.1-2.7 is still too great to retain a track long enough to burn through enemy armor. CIWS RKVs become effective against ships at this range and can be used against missiles at non-relativistic speeds.
<0.2 million miles: Lasers can be used against ships and missiles at this range. CIWS RKVs can be used to intercept enemy RKVs that can't be outmaneuvered.
Now, cloaked ships would mainly be used like submarines currently. They'd be smaller, stealthy, and largely sit in waiting for larger ships to pass by. Missiles would mainly only be used by cloaked ships, as they lack the speed to get past laser defenses. Only on ships traveling at relativistic speeds (thus reducing reaction time) would this not be an option.
A typical layout for a cloaked ship would be something like this:

Approximately 300 feet long, 5-10,000 tons of primarily titanium
Fusion or antimatter propulsion
Cloaking device that obscures all forms of electromagnetic radiation, meaning the ship can only be detected using gravitational waves
Sub-relativistic missiles as armament
Gravitational wave sensors
Electro-optical sensors
Gravitational wave decoys
1-2 lasers for close-in missile defense

Electro-optical sensors would see limited use on cloaked ships, as they would give away the ships position when used.
The missiles would only have a range of <1 million miles, as it's unlikely gravitational wave sensors would be able to detect ships from much further away. You're also not going to need a huge amount of range when cloaked ships basically just try to move into the path of relativistic non-cloaked ships most of the time.
Of course, you could have other types of ships as well, e.g. orbital bombardment or anti-cloaked ship vessels, but these are the basics.
Let me know what you guys think of this and if there's anything I left out.

Hallo liebe Community, ich (m) habe letzten Mai eine wirklich tolle Frau (f40) in einer Discothek kennengelernt. An diesem Abend sind wir auch später noch zu ihr. Ich habe mich dann am darauffolgenden Tag bei ihr gemeldet und seither sind wir eigentlich immer in Kontakt. Sie hat ein Kind aus einer früheren Beziehung, was mich zu Beginn etwas unruhig gemacht hat, da ich selber keine Erfahrung mit Kindern habe. Wir haben das Jahr über dann viel gemeinsam unternommen z.B. Zoo, Zirkus, Wandern, Weihnachten, Kochen und vieles mehr. Oft und immer mehr war auch der Sohn dabei und meine Befürchtungen haben sich als unberechtigt erwiesen, den ich verstehe mich wirklich toll mit ihm und geniesse jede Minuten mit ihr und dem Kind, was auch auf Gegenseitigkeit beruht. Unsere 'Beziehung' ist aber rein platonisch, und ich dachte, dass sich das über die Zeit vielleicht entwickeln könnte. Es hilft sicher nicht, dass ich vielleicht nicht die Person bin, welche sich schnell gegenüber anderen öffnet, auch meine letzte richtige Beziehung ist schon bald 10 Jahre her und ich bin dahingehend vielleicht etwas eingerostet. Wir sind uns vom Naturell recht unterschiedlich, was mich aber nicht stört bzw. ich denke wir gleichen unsere Stärken und Schwächen sehr gut aus.
Wir machen zusammen ca. einmal oder jede zweite Woche etwas ab, aber mit der Zeit zweifle ich an mir, ob sie überhaupt mehr in unserer Freundschaft sehen könnte. Unsere Ausflüge und Treffen werden zu ca. 50% von ihr oder mir initiert, ich denke also sie hat auch Freude am Kontakt. Ich würde mir wirklich wünschen, die Beziehung zu vertiefen bzw. auch auf einer romantischen Ebene, da ich mich in den letzten Monaten recht in sie verschossen habe. Die offensichtliche Antwort oder Rat ist natürlich, das ganze mal anzusprechen, was mir innerlich auch bewusst ist. Leider habe ich mich sehr an unseren Kontakt gewöhnt und will das nicht missen, deshalb fürchte ich mich vermutlich auch vor einer 'Konfrontation'. Ich habe mir das auch schon ein paar mal vorgenommen, aber irgendwie finde ich immer eine Ausrede, warums diesmal nicht gepasst hat.
Ich wollte das primär einfach mal loswerden, vielleicht wart ihr ja mal in einer ähnlichen Situation oder habt solche Erfahrungen (ev. auch von der Gegenseite aus) gemacht?
