So, I bought four tickets to the Detroit TOTY show: one each for my wife and I, and two more for some friends.
Unexpectedly, the other three people have all had to back out and I am now going alone.
This puts me in a real financial bind, because we were going to be driving together and sharing lodging, but I have had to buy a last-minute round-trip plane ticket from Savannah, GA and get an Airbnb all by myself!

2025.01.19 01:50 dUjOUR88 In your experience, what political arguments stump the average Trump supporter?
I live in Trump country, and pull myself into political arguments constantly. I recently got into a pretty intense argument with a right-wing co-worker, and I realized that this argument I regularly use about health care hasn't yet had a good counter:
- I bring up single-payer healthcare and its success in other developed countries,
- The right-winger denounces single-payer,
- Ask them what they would do to solve the healthcare problem,
- They deny there is a healthcare issue and the current arrangement is fine,
- Ask right-winger if 30 million uninsured is an issue OR if healthcare expenses being the #1 cause of bankruptcy in America is an issue,
- In my experience, surprisingly, about half the time they will admit this is an issue. This is when you ask "So if that's an issue, what's your solution? I have a solution, what's yours?" They can't answer, and at this point the argument is over. I usually just walk away at this point because there's really nothing else to say.
- The other half of the time, they will not admit either of the above is an issue, because they realize they do not have an answer to the obvious next question ("What would you do to fix it?"), and they will attempt to steer the argument to something else. In my most recent experience, the other person demanded to know whether I supported the healthcare shooter. But anything goes here. They'll bring up immigration, George Floyd, inflation, transgenders, whatever. The key here is to not follow them into la-la-land, just re-iterate your belief that 30 million uninsured is an issue, and ask them what their solution is.
- They won't have one. They never have one. Sometimes they repeatedly try to pull you into a different topic, and you kind of run circles around each other. At this point, the argument is over.
